Dear museum visitors!
Welcome to the Turkistan Regional Museum of History and Local Lore — a sacred place with more than a century of history!
The history of our museum dates back to 1920. The new museum building you see today was renovated and equipped in accordance with modern requirements, and in 2014 it once again opened its doors to the public.
The design of the building was created by Amandzhol Naimanbay, a well-known ethnodesigner in Kazakhstan.
Today, our museum serves as an important cultural and educational centre for local residents and guests arriving from different parts of Kazakhstan and from abroad.
Archaeology Hall
Speaking about the history of our region, Turkistan Region, located along the Great Silk Road, has a rich centuries-old history, unique culture and deep-rooted traditions.

Our region is located between the eastern part of the Turan Lowland and the western spurs of the Tien Shan Mountains. It borders Karaganda Region to the north, Kyzylorda Region to the west, Zhambyl Region to the east, and the Republic of Uzbekistan to the south.
The Karatau mountain ranges divide the central part of the region.
The southeastern part of the region is occupied by the western spurs of the Talas Alatau, as well as the unique Karzhantau and Ugam mountain ranges. The Sairam Peak, rising to 4,238 metres above sea level, is also located here.
The Shardara Reservoir on the Syr Darya River, the Bogen Reservoir on the Bogen River, the Badam Reservoir on the Badam River, and the Kaiyndy Reservoir on the Arys River add to the natural beauty of the region.
The Aksu-Zhabagly State Nature Reserve, the first nature reserve established in Kazakhstan, is located in the Tulkibas District of Turkistan Region and the adjacent territory of Zhambyl Region.
The reserve was established in 1926 and is a specially protected natural area. Its unique natural environment is of international importance.
