The Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi is an architectural monument built in the late 14th century in the city of Turkistan.
After Khoja Ahmed Yasawi’s death, he was buried in a small mausoleum built in his honour, attended by a large gathering of people. Over time, the mausoleum became an important pilgrimage site for Muslims.
In 1396, Amir Timur, the ruler of Central Asia, ordered the construction of a new mausoleum on the site of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi’s original tomb. The mausoleum is considered one of the outstanding masterpieces of medieval architecture. Twenty-one Kazakh khans are buried within the mausoleum complex.
