Before you is the mausoleum of our great ancestor, Khoja Ahmed Yasawi. It was built by order of Amir Timur. The construction of the mausoleum dates back to the late 14th and early 15th centuries.
The large blue dome you see above is one of the largest domes in Central Asia. Beneath the dome are rooms known as the Kazandyk and Jamaatkhana.
Inside the mausoleum, you can see a unique masterpiece of bronze casting — the Taykazan.
The Taykazan was created in 1399 by the master Abdul Aziz ibn Sharaf ad-Din al-Tabrizi. It was made in the settlement of Karnak, located approximately 27 kilometres from Turkestan.
The Taykazan was cast from an alloy of various metals, including zinc, tin, bronze, lead, copper, silver, and iron.
The Taykazan weighs approximately 2 tonnes. Its capacity is 3,000 litres, its height is 158.3 centimetres, and the diameter of its upper rim is 243.4 centimetres.
